Ludicorper Ben Cerveny will represent Ludicorp and GNE at a one-day colloquium exploring the technological, aesthetic and social-political issues associated with massively-multiplayer, immersive gaming to be held at University of California at Berkeley's Intel Research Laboratory on March 3rd, 2003.
The event, called 030303: Collective Play is the second in an ongoing series of colloquia organized by UC Berkeley and designed to ignite high-tech, cross-disciplinary collaboration among artists, engineers, humanities researchers, policy makers, and administrators. You can read about last year's colloquium, 020202: A Social Technologies Dialogue online.
Other participants include Howard Smart Mobs Rheingold, Lynn Hershman and our friends Holly Samee and Josh Babetski from Collective Detective.
The colloquium will examine some of the more interesting aspects of large-group interaction in virtual and other play spaces which are just beginning to emerge. The possibilities for new forms of social interaction which fluidly extend from the individual level to the group level and back again have been a driving force in the design of GNE and we look forward to hearing from other researchers and practitioners to hear their perspectives.
Registration for the event is now closed.
